Surfers: Artist Statement

I cannot swim. This is a daunting reality that I can't help but confront when I see people that do. What appears to be like gliding on water is perhaps one of my greatest riddles alive. This is a body of images that reflects my awe for the surfers I met at Far Rockaway beach in New York. The people, their love for their surfboard, the body politics and the awkward tangents born from the collision of man and nature are astounding. What I found myself magnetically drawn to was the idea that both preparation and failure flank the romance of riding the wave.
